Carelink Africa, Inc. the charitable, religious and educational NGO that recently donated various books to a number of schools in the Volta and Greater Accra Regions in Ghana, broadened its horizon of charity when it donated assorted medical supplies to the Sogakope District Hospital.
The donations, worth GH¢2,000, were presented to the Matron of the hospital, Evelyn Takyi-Menson by George Amegashitsi, President of Carelink Africa, on behalf of the organization.
Presenting the items, the president said, “Our organization was touched by the plight of our citizenry living in deprived areas of the country. Carelink Africa is committed to assisting these communities in various ways to improve their standard of living.”
Mrs. Takyi-Menson, in her response, expressed her gratitude and that of the entire hospital staff for the kind gesture, adding that the supplies would go a long way to supplement what is already in stock.
She appealed to other NGOs and institutions to emulate the example of Carelink Africa, and come to their aid.
It is recalled that the same organization had earlier on presented books worth over GH¢3,000 to the Battor Senior High School (SHS), Mepe Presbyterian Junior High School (JHS), Bator St. Kizito R.C. JHS and Ada Secondary-Technical SHS, Sege.
The Vice President of the NGO, Rev. Sylvanus Elorm, said education is the key to development, and is therefore paramount in the upbringing of every child in every town and village.
Rev. Elorm appealed to students to desist from any form of examination malpractice, and urged them to live honestly in every area of their lives.
The headmaster of Mepe Presby JHS, James Klakani Chubby, on behalf of the church, said the donation would supplement the school’s library and appealed for more assistance.
The headmaster of Battor SHS also said the books have been of great benefit to the school, students and teachers. According to him, while students borrowed some, masters also got some on loan for their references.
Carelink Africa seeks to serve as an agent of change by promoting better socio-economic development through advocacy, technical support, educational and financial aid.
It is currently working with the local school districts, churches and community leaders in Ghana to provide support and hopes to expand its outreach programmes through different advocacy groups, donors and foundations, to meet the needs of a large number of deprived children on the continent.
The supplies presented to the Sogakope Hospital included surgical gloves and catheters.
